From Garden to Plate: Why Food Is at the Heart of Our Sustainable Boutique Hotel

Food has always been central to life at Quinta Camarena. For us, sustainability starts with what we grow, what we source, and how we share it.

Our gardens and orchards provide seasonal fruits, vegetables and herbs that find their way directly onto the table. There’s something deeply grounding about eating food that was grown just steps away — food that reflects the land, the weather, and the moment.

We also work closely with local producers in Alentejo. Supporting small farmers and artisans allows us to offer honest, flavourful meals while reducing food miles and waste. It’s a way of honouring the region and contributing to a more responsible form of tourism in Portugal.

Meals here aren’t about perfection or presentation. They’re about connection. Guests often gather around the table, sharing stories, slowing down, and rediscovering the joy of simple ingredients cooked with care.

As a sustainable boutique hotel in Portugal, we believe dining should nourish both body and soul — and leave as light a footprint as possible.
